Weather conditions on this day down through Irish history.

1922: Dublin RNLI announces a £500,000 investment in motor-propelled boats to replace its fleet of rowing and sailing lifeboats. 

1937: Public transport and sporting fixtures are disrupted by snow in eastern counties. Bus passengers are stranded in heavy snow at Glendalough, County Wicklow. 

1951: Considerable snowfall in strong easterly winds impacts the Midlands and east. Mullingar records a snow depth of 15cm.

2013: Dublin Airport records its highest overnight minimum (7°C) of the month of March in what is otherwise the coldest March on record at the station. The mean temperature was 3.1°C, marking its coldest March since the weather station opened 71 years prior.

2023: Markree in Sligo records a grass minimum of -11.1 °C reported in a month that saw some Irish stations record 16 days with ground frosts.
