The warmest day of the year to date is on the way as temperatures are expected to hit 15c or 16c on Sunday afternoon.
Moore Park holds the current highest temperature for 2025 after the Cork station registered 14.8c on February 20th.
The warm conditions during Sunday will be replaced by much colder air during the second half of Monday when a cold front introduces an Arctic Maritime airmass over Ireland.
The coming week will bring daytime temperatures of 6-8c, but there will be plenty of sunshine away from north and east facing coastlines.
As winds swing around to a northeast direction ion Tuesday evening, colder air passing over the warmer waters of the Irish Sea will generate showers.
Most of the showers will be of rain but some will fall as sleet or snow on high ground with some snowfall on mountains of the east and northeast.
Night-time frosts will develop from Monday night through next week.
At present, less cold conditions are expected by St. Patrick’s Day (Monday, March 17th) and it will remain largely dry.
