Wind warning introduced for 10 counties


Status Yellow Wind warnings have been issued for 10 counties of Ireland on Friday morning.

Very strong and gusty southerly winds will lead to difficult travelling conditions, some fallen trees or branches, and debris and loose objects being displaced, according to Met Éireann.

A Status Yellow wind warning for Cork and Kerry comes into effect from 4,.00am and expires at 8.00am, while a similar alert for counties Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford, Wicklow, Waterford is in effect from 6.00am to 10.00am.

The UK Met Office has also issued a Status Yellow Wind Warning for Antrim, Armagh and Down for Friday. 


The Met Office says strong and gusty southerly winds may cause disruption to transport and infrastructure. The alert is in place from 6.00am to 10.00am on Friday. 

Maximum gusts of 80 to 95 km/h are expected overnight Thursday into Friday morning with the strongest winds occurring across the south, northeast and in Leinster. Western parts of Connacht, Mayo and Donegal may also experience strong winds, according to the latest output from the Harmonie model. 


Power outages have been reported across counties Clare and Kerry this morning following thunderstorm activity. 

More than 450 lightning strikes were reported across West Munster on Thursday morning.
