Sunny conditions prevail as overnight temperatures dip

Ireland enjoyed widespread sunshine on Thursday afternoon as showers retreated to the northwestern coast.

Winds across the island will become light westerly by this evening and temperatures will drop to low single figures overnight with patches of mist and fog developing.

High pressure sitting just to the south of Ireland means many parts of the south and east will remain dry up to next Thursday morning.

Highest precipitation totals will be recorded in coastal counties of the north and west.

It looks like a rain-free period for most of England and Wales too. Western Scotland seeing plenty of rainfall.

Temperatures will be close to the average for the time of year.
