Satellite imagery reveals breaks in the cloud for the northwest

There were short-lived breaks in the cloud in the northwest this morning during what was an otherwise gloomy and wet day across Ireland.

NASA’s MODIS satellite image from 11.00am shows clearer skies over northwest Mayo and parts of Donegal and Derry.

Meanwhile, the Isle of Man in The Irish Sea enjoyed some sunshine as the Copernicus Sentinel-2 satellite passed over at 1.00pm.

Patchy light rain or drizzle will continue overnight before a more organised band of rain moves into the southwest.

The rain will become widespread during Sunday before clearing to drizzly and misty conditions.

Yet another band of rain will extend countrywide on Sunday night and through Monday with highest temperatures of 5 to 10c, mildest in the southwest.

The unsettled conditions will continue for the rest of the week in fresh to strong south to southwest winds.

It will become milder everywhere from Monday night through Tuesday.
