In what has been a gloomy month overall across Ireland, the sun finally appeared in the Midlands and eastern counties during Wednesday morning.
A NASA Modis satellite image of Ireland at 9.40am shows clearer weather across north Munster, east Connacht and much of Leinster.
Moderate rain in the west is slowly extending west and the last of any hazy sunshine is retreating to the east coast.
Rainfall will extend northeast during the day and will reach the east coast and Ulster this evening before a clearance early on Thursday.
Scattered heavy showers will follow from the southwest during Thursday with a risk of thunderstorms in moderate to strong southwest winds.
Winds will moderate and showers will become more scattered on Thursday evening.
