The latest GFS model output indicates some potential for very strong winds impacting Ireland later next week into the following week, namely Friday (21st), Sunday (23rd) and Tuesday (25th).
The US model has a tendency to amplify storm potential in its medium to long range output.
However, it is expected that the Jet Stream will become energised next week as a result of a deep pool of cold air sinking into the northeasttern United States.
Winds will be largely southerly turning southwesterly this week. They will be moderate and occasionally fresh to strong.
Temperatures will climb to 3 to 4c above average for the time of year in the coming week.
Rainfall totals also will be well above the seasonal average with the higher precipitation totals affecting the west and south of Ireland. The lower totals will be concentrated in inland Ulster and the central east coast.
