Weather conditions on this day down through Irish history.
1903: Strong gale force winds mark the beginning of a three-week period of sustained winds as a strong jet stream carries successive Atlantic depressions close-by the west coast of Ireland in a north easterly direction.
1926: The 12 crew members of the HMS Tenby Castle who were feared lost in a violent storm on February 12th rowed into Cleggan, County Galway, on a lifeboat. The crew had been on Inishturk Island (Mayo) ever since leaving their ship but were unable to communicate with the mainland due to rough seas. The trawler Cardigan Castle is confirmed to have sunk in in Clifden Bay, however. Only one crew member survived.
1963: Snow showers fall across Ireland with lying snow causing disruption to travel in Monaghan and Cavan.
2022: Storm Franklin causes extensive damage, with over 29,000 people losing power. Ulster and Connacht are placed under Orange Wind Warnings by Met Eireann.
