Weather conditions on this day down through Irish history.

1905: Cold northerly winds swoop down over Ireland marking the beginning of a two-week cold spell.

1947: Dublin comes to a complete standstill, with no public or private transport operating because of dangerous roads brought on by a prolonged period of cold weather. 

1997: Storm force winds with gusts of up to 130 km/h cause major disruption around the country, leaving thousands of homes without electricity.

2022: Franklin, the third named storm in a week, is noted by the UK Met Office. Franklin is the most intense storm of the 2021–22 European windstorm season and causes immense damage throughout Western Europe.
