On This Day (February 14th) in Irish Weather History

Weather conditions on this day down through Irish history.

1853: The Queen Victoria sinks in a snowstorm near the Howth Rocks in Dublin, with the loss of 83 passengers and crew, including the Captain. One lifeboat, with 17 passengers, made it to shore near Baily Lighthouse. Members of the Marlin Sun Aqua Club, Dublin discovered the wreck in 1983.

1963: Serious flooding is reported in Ulster due to melting snow during a short mild reprieve in the Big Freeze.  

1990: Galway is hit be serious flooding following heavy rainfall. It's the worst flooding in the county in 36 years.

2014: Snowfall impacts travel in the west and north of Ireland as repair work to the power grid continues following Storm Darwin.
