Weather conditions on this day down through Irish history.
1978: Heavy snow and low temperatures cause travel disruption across the country. Many locations are cut off.
1990: Extensive river flooding impacts many counties following an extended period of heavy rain.
2014: Ireland is hit by Storm Darwin. The extreme west to northwest winds behind the storm centre cause major damage. A 159 km/h (86 knots) gust is recorded at Shannon Airport, while a record 120 km/h (Hurricane Force) sustained wind is recorded at Mace Head in Galway. Remarkably, there is no reported loss of life but there is considerable damage to housing and other buildings. The forestry industry estimates that approximately 8000 ha are damaged.
