Met Éireann’s extended forecast paints a rather bleak picture for anyone seeking settled weather over the coming weeks.
With just ten days to go until the meteorological spring, Ireland’s weather has turned increasingly unsettled following a drier than average first half of February.
Met Éireann says unsettled weather will continue for the remainder of the month and into the opening half of March, with low pressure systems passing to the north of Ireland and higher pressure to the south.
This will place Ireland in a generally westerly airflow, with showers and spells of rain moving in.
This would result in above normal precipitation across the country but also above average temperatures. Rain warnings are possible, according to Met Eireann.
Looking beyond mid-March, the forecaster says low pressure will remain the dominant factor during, bringing unsettled weather with above average precipitation nationwide.
The first half of February has been drier than average generally across Ireland. Malin Head has recorded just 30% of its LTA (Long Term Average) rainfall for the month up to February 16th.
