Cloudy conditions persists with scattered wintry showers

A collective huff and puff by the people of southwest Kerry has blown a hole in the cloud cover there this afternoon.

The NASA Modis satellite shows sunshine briefly breaking through in parts of the Kingdom at around 11am today.

Otherwise, it is a rather dull beginning to the new week with scattered rain and hail showers affecting eastern and southeastern coastal counties pushing further inland this afternoon. Some showers or longer spells of precipitation may turn to sleet and snow over higher ground this evening.

Highest temperatures today of 4 to 7 degrees but feeling more like -1 to +3 degrees in a moderate to fresh easterly breeze.

Another cold night ahead away from the east coast with temperatures dipping to between 4 degrees and -1 degrees.

It will be largely dry but overcast during daylight hours on Tuesday apart from continuing shower activity off the Irish Sea, some of which will be wintry in nature.

Scattered outbreaks of rain and sleet pushing across parts of Munster tomorrow evening. Snow is likely on hills and mountains.
