Atlantic system to bring strong to gale force winds to Ireland this Sunday

The low pressure system that will bring strong to gale force winds to Ireland on Sunday is winding up off the coast of Newfoundland and Labrador.

The system will track northeast to between the northwest of Ireland and Iceland.

Top gusts of 110km/h in the northwest and 90-100 km/h elsewhere in Ireland are expected.

With already saturated to waterlogged soils, the forecast heavy rain may become more of an issue for some locations rather than the wind.

Met Éireann and the UK Met Office have put in place Status Yellow rainfall and wind warnings for 18 counties.
