Storm Eowyn on the front pages of local newspapers


As the fallout from Storm Eowyn drops down the news pecking order nationally, local papers across Ireland are continuing to lead with front page stories on the ongoing disruption caused by Friday's storm.


More than 100,000 electricity customers remain without power seven days after the storm hit, down from a peak of 768,000.

An estimated 2,800 people are inviolved in restoring power supplies with the northern and western counties worst affected. 

ESB Networks managing director Nicholas Tarrant told The Irish Examiner that Éowyn was the worst storm the country had ever faced, surpassing previous major storms like Storm Darragh (2024) and Storm Ophelia (in 2017).

Storm Eowyn broke an 80-year-old wind speed record. Mace Head in Galway recorded a maximum gust of 180km/h.
